Description
👉 This kit has been upgraded with an additional 105 yds of Aquamarine for a fold-over brim.
The Glacier Bay Hat is in Nancy Bates's Knitting the National Parks Book. A color printed pattern is included in this kit.
We think Nancy put it best:
"With over 3 million acres of wilderness, Glacier Bay is filled with unforgettable sights and sounds for anyone lucky enough to visit. Calving glaciers, frolicking whales, and the symphony of songbirds in the rainforest canopy may be everyday occurrences in these parts, but to experience them firsthand is a memory of a lifetime. This design features three breaching Orcas surrounded by a bold design inspired by the beautiful artwork of the Huna Tribal House in Bartlett Cove".
Kit includes: Enough *yarn (3 colors), 6 stitch markers, the pattern, and a clear reusable project bag to make the Glacier Bay Beanie. We have included enough yarn for a fold-over brim. The pattern is sized adult, 19" to 22".
The Kit does not include needles. Pattern calls for US 5 x 16" (3.75mm) for the brim and US 7 x 16" (4.5mm) for the hat body, optional #7 double-point needles to finish.
About the yarn: We chose 3 colors in Malabrigo Rios, 100% Superwash Merino, to get the closest match to Nancy Bates' sample beanie. Rios is machine washable and ultra-soft, making this a beanie you won't want to take off!
*We've allotted a minimum of 10% extra for yarn usage based on the pattern recommendations by Nancy Bates. This kit has been upgraded with an additional 105 yds for a fold over brim. This hat with the yarn and notions priced separately would be $64.96.
**Please note that as beautiful as the Glacier Bay Beanie is, this is not a beginner pattern for those just learning Fair Isle techniques. For those looking for something a little easier, we recommend the Mammoth Mountain Beanie Kit. It makes for a perfect first Fair Isle hat to warm you up before tackling the Glacier Bay Beanie.
